Clinical spectrum of phaeohyphomycosis in solid organ transplant recipients

چکیده
OTR: organ transplant recipients INTRODUCTION Phaeohyphomycosis is a rare, opportunistic infection caused by melanized fungi that predominates in tropical climates. The increase in the number of organ transplant recipients (OTRs), in conjunction with improvement in their long-term treatment, has led to an increase in the incidence of phaeohyphomycosis. Phaeohyphomycosis has a wide range of clinical presentations, which are associated with the immune status of the host. We describe 7 cases of phaeohyphomycosis in OTRs, which clearly demonstrate that the clinical presentations can have profound variations and that treating this infection in this specific patient population can be challenging.

Phaeohyphomycosis in transplant recipients: Results from the Transplant Associated Infection Surveillance Network (TRANSNET).
Transplant recipients are at a high risk for developing invasive fungal infections. The agents of phaeohyphomycosis are environmental molds found worldwide, and they cause a broad spectrum of disease including skin and subcutaneous lesions, pneumonia, central nervous system disease, fungemia, and disseminated disease. Using data from the Transplant Associated Infection Surveillance Network (TRA...

BACKGROUND Subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis in solid organ recipients may have an adverse outcome. OBJECTIVE We sought to describe the disease course, treatment, and outcome of allograft function in kidney transplant recipients with phaeohyphomycosis. METHODS Seventeen patients were followed for a mean period of 25.4 months to analyze the clinical response to treatment. RESULTS There was no...

متن کاملIncidence of ganciclovir resistance in CMV-positive renal transplant recipients and its association with UL97 gene mutations
Human cytomegalovirus (CMV) remains the most common infection affecting organ transplant recipients. Despite advances in the prophylaxis and acute treatment of CMV, it remains an important pathogen affecting the short- and long-term clinical outcome of solid organ transplant recipient. The emergence of CMV resistance in a patient reduces the clinical efficacy of antiviral therapy, complicates t...
